Our Story
The Keith Howard Foundation is an independent Charity (previously known as The Emerald Foundation) and was established in 2008 by the late Dr Keith Howard OBE, a philanthropist and businessman who was raised in Yorkshire. Keith was extremely passionate about supporting local charities in Yorkshire and creating a wide range of opportunities for various communities. His family, who are equally as passionate about the community and wider impact, continue his legacy today through the Foundation.
Since its inception, the Foundation has granted over £16million to local charities.

About Dr Keith Howard OBE
Keith was a key part of the local community, widely recognised as a philanthropist and great supporter of the arts, sport and education.
Though he was ever modest, he was honoured to be presented with a Medal for Arts Philanthropy by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2009; and in 2011 the Queen awarded Keith an OBE for services to business, sport and the arts in West Yorkshire.
Opera North’s famous Howard Assembly Room was named in honour of Keith and he was also a key contributor to the major development works that have taken place at the Grand Theatre in Leeds.
To continue his legacy at Headingley Stadium, the ‘Howard Stand’ and the ‘Howard Suite’ were created in honour of his lifetime support to both Cricket and Rugby.

Our Board consists of six Trustees, meeting three times a year.
Application for funding are discussed at our summer Board meeting each year.
